Starship KAGA Member Handbook

Section 1 – Rules and Regulations

Starship KAGA has few rules, but they are fundamental to our community’s health and happiness.

1.1 Prime Directive – Have Fun

Starship KAGA exists to celebrate our shared passion for Star Trek, science fiction, creativity, and community. Our goal is to create a welcoming space where everyone enjoys themselves and forms meaningful social connections, all while embracing Star Trek’s hopeful ideals. All fans are valid and welcome aboard. We celebrate and respect diverse ways of engaging with fandom, without setting arbitrary barriers or standards. Every fan’s voice and creativity matter equally. Conflicts, disagreements, or misunderstandings should be addressed respectfully and constructively, guided by the spirit of cooperation and empathy.

1.2 Regulation II – Free-to-Play

Membership aboard USS Kaga is, and always will be, entirely free. Financial donations are strictly voluntary, transparent, and will always be accompanied by detailed reporting to ensure trust and accountability.

1.3 Regulation III – Conduct with Honor and Respect

Infinite diversity in infinite combinations. All members must treat others with kindness, respect, and empathy. Bullying, discrimination, gatekeeping, or mistreatment based on race, gender, religion, sexuality, nationality, or any other aspect of personal identity is strictly prohibited.

Section 2 – Participation and Recognition

Starship KAGA is an active, creative, and community-oriented organization. Participation takes many forms, including creative writing, gaming, role-playing, artwork, costume-making, and community service. All these contributions are valued and encouraged, reinforcing our shared vision of an inclusive and optimistic future.

Every member earns participation points monthly, either through active contributions or as a valued observer (lurker). Additional effort is recognized through a tiered bonus system.

Members earn monthly points for participating in the following departments:

  • Command (Meeting Attendance / Admin / Voting)
  • Tactical (Gaming Challenges)
  • Security (Physical Challenges)
  • Operations (General Activities)
  • Engineering (Maker & Creative Challenges)
  • Sciences (Education & Service Challenges)
  • Medical (Health & Caregiving Challenges)
Bonus Points System

At the end of each year, three bonus scores are calculated based on broader Divisions:

  • CMD Points: √(Command + Tactical + Security department points), resulting in a possible award of up to 6 CMD Points per year.
  • OPS Points: √(Operations + Engineering department points), resulting in a possible award of up to 4 OPS Points per year.
  • SCI Points: √(Sciences + Medical department points), resulting in a possible award of up to 4 SCI Points per year.

If the sum of these three bonus scores reaches or exceeds 6, the member earns a Bonus Level and receives one award that year. Awards serve to highlight dedication, creativity, and active involvement beyond baseline participation.

2.1 Promotion Grades

Promotions are symbolic of a member’s contributions and involvement within the group. They reflect dedication and participation, never authority or superiority. Uniforms or costumes are encouraged for those who enjoy them but are not required.

Officer promotions are based solely on years of active participation (Level), while enlisted grades are determined by age plus participation level.

Promotions are based on years of participation. The officer path is the default, though members under 18 or those who request it may pursue the enlisted path.
